So we tested five units on generator power. With the generator running (Westinghouse 7500e), the test is with approximately 3000 watts running the house...... APC BE550G continually clicked over to the battery (back and fourth). CyberPower CP1000AVRLCD, CyberPower CP1000PFCLCD, and APC BR1000G all accepted the generator power until I turned on the microwave. Then the units continually clicked over to the battery (back and fourth). Tripp Lite Smart1300LCDT was the only one that accepted the generator power and stayed on the generator power even when I turned on the microwave. In other words, the Tripp Lite did not continuously flip over to the battery and back again, it stayed on the generator power. We went with the Tripp Lite because the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) was the most consistent and stable of the group we tested. If... (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase This review is from: Tripp Lite 1500VA UPS Back Up, AVR, LCD Display, 10 Outlets, 120V 900W, Tel & Coax Protection, USB (SMART1500LCDT) (Electronics) The battery on this is a workhorse. It will keep my computer (cpu, monitor, external drives, speakers) running for 90 minutes! If I power down everything but the CPU (which I do only for testing) I can get over two hours! It runs quiet and cool. The LCD display is a little bright, but not a major concern. Besides, having a front display to tell me whatever I wanted to know about the battery is really helpful. I got this to replace a major brand competitor, and this has a better form factor, is quieter, and seems to be a better quality build than my last one.As much as I like the UPS, the Tripp Lite software is absolutely terrible. First, no CD is included; you must download the software. Second, it runs entirely on the Java platform, which is slow. Finally, and this might be a little important, most of the time it does NOT see my battery! It will work upon first install, but then says no battery is detected. A support incident with Tripp Lite led me through... Period. I have never been disappointed with a Tripp Lite product. I still use several Tripp Lite surge protectors that I purchased in the 1980s. They have been through a lot and refuse to give up the game. This SMART1500LCDT UPS has already survived several major power surges caused by nearby lightning strikes, three brown-outs, multiple power interruptions, and a voltage spike of 158 volts through our power grid. I have been so pleased with this UPS that I bought a second one for my office.A few years ago, I foolishly drifted away from Tripp Lite into the world of APC. Well, I learned the hard way to stay with a reliable company and their products. I now have four failed APC battery backups. No, the batteries didn't die. The electronic components inside the APCs failed. All four units suffered the same "unknown" error and APC support was no help at all. They only offered a discounted upgrade to another APC battery backup... Read more |
