Most useful bit of my review, up front: This product provides 84VA. Use that to compare it directly with other UPS products.So... this is areat product and a great idea. I have a house and business full of APC UPS'. I typically buy the 1500VA (compared to this product @ 84VA) variety, which are fairly high end, on the consumer spectrum. They have served me well. I've had two that went bad within the first 5-7 years. For the first one, I took the time and expense to replace the battery. But declined to do so for the second unit, as the expense is not much less than simply replacing the entire unit. And that's why I like this BGE50ML version. The battery CAN be replaced (product number M12USWH) at reasonable expense... but not great expense. The product is certainly not a beast @ only 50watt capacity. This is a good, compact backup-power battery for two AC power devices, and, coincidentally, a port for charging mobile devices with USB cables. The AC plug-ins in back really do rotate, which is important because many AC cords end in bulky, blocky transformers or such and these rotating sockets help fit them. The unit might not handle large-wattage devices but for what it's designed for -- routers, say -- it's fine, and that means you can keep your AC devices online in a power outage (and recharge mobile devices as well). As a lifeboat in an outage it's a great help, and it's a convenient place to recharge mobile USB-cable devices in normal periods. The unit is a convenient size, about the size and shape of a book, and can fit many cramped areas.The UPS sets up easily, and the little feet can snap in to allow it to stand up or lay sideways, depending on your space needs. As a long-time user of both UPSs and portable batteries I was intrigued by the APC BGE50ML Back-UPS Connect and welcomed the opportunity to try it out and write a review. As with most APC products that I've tried, it's well-built and pretty straightforward. With the battery connected you get a light-weight UPS with a couple of rotating receptacles and three USB charge ports (one is high power). With the battery removed you get a pretty basic surge arrester and a portable battery that can be used to recharge your devices on the go. The battery is 11,400 mAh so it's on the higher end as far as portable batteries go. The high power USB charge port is also located on the battery. The reason I'm not rating it higher is that for the price you can get a regular UPS + portable battery (11,000 mAh and up) so I don't really see the value or purpose of a product like this. A regular UPS will always give you battery backup - not just when the battery is connected. |
